This is an unprecedented time for all of us. We are all affected on so many levels. Have you been pushing away your stress and soldiering on in this NEW NORMAL?

There are many ways that long-term stress can have an effect on you if you don’t take it head on and help your body, mind, and spirit deal with it. It may induce or exacerbate depression and anxiety-related disorders, as well as digestive and sleep problems.

In addition, we all know that stress can suppress your immune system which makes it easier to get sick.

So, we at Aqueous are sharing our wellness hacks with you. Let’s take that stress head-on, with these powerful tools.

Here are some of our faves:

+ Yoga for non-Yogi’s

Don’t roll your eyes! If you already have a relationship with yoga, you know the restorative power of this practice. If you don’t, don’t be scared away. Just a 5-minute practice involving moves you already know can physically relax your body, but mentally it causes you to pause, be mindful of the moment, your breath, and movement. This mindfulness is truly one of the most stress-busting benefits of yoga.

Yoga doesn’t have to mean standing on your head or balling up like a pretzel. ANYONE can do this:

Easy Pose (Sukhasana):

  1. Begin in a comfortable seated position, legs crossed. While sitting, allow your shoulders to relax.
  1. Extend your tailbone down and contract your stomach, which will help to straighten your back and lengthen your back from the top of your head.

  2. Inhale for six seconds while pushing your stomach away from your body.

  3. Exhale, allowing your stomach to come back to your body.

Do this four times. You’re Welcome.

From here you can experiment with neck roll, shoulder roll, standing forward bend, (see you already know these!).

Guaranteed - if you take a few minutes to do Easy Pose, your shoulders will drop and the benefit of yoga in your day, and on your wellness journey, has already begun.

+ Take a Hike...or a Walk

Truly the quickest, easiest way to raise the endorphins and lower stress levels is walking. In the midst of workouts being thrown off, gyms closing, re-opening, then closing again, one thing you can count on is a nice, long walk.

I don’t think you need us to tell you that walking is something that every doctor endorses. It’s pretty powerful what just a short walk can do…

Even Hippocrates said, “ Walking is a man’s best medicine.” Pretty great that advice from 370 BC has withstood the test of time!
